First of all, I'm not a dealer nor do I own a store. I wish I did but I don't. I do it for fun and to make a couple bucks for gas money and child support. I started collecting in 1992 when I bought my first beckett and I started buying 1993 Collector's Edge Football and 1993 Skybox Premium Football boxes every week for months till I used up all my credit cards. I should have invested in 1993 SP Football and 1993 SP Baseball but I didn't and was buying 1993 Collector's Edge Football & 1993 Wild Card Superchrome. Stupid Move! Today, the hobby cost too much and Mr. Beckett is pricing Game-Used and autographs cheaper and cheaper every year, haven't you noticed it? And I noticed Mr. Beckett is using auction sites for their pricing so if a $100 is selling for only $40-50, The real-time price guide changes the prices on the spot so Thanks! Mr. Beckett for dropping prices on all the good cards in the hobby!.
Well, that was a great investment in Collector's Edge back in the day, I thought that was the future of the hobby and buying Wild Card Chromium packs for $12 a pack. I was stupid but today's hobby is different and everything is one of one to # to 25, patch rookie autographs and dual and triple signatures and etc. I can't afford SP Authentic, Ultimate Collection, Upper Deck Exquisite or Leaf Limited
I've quit several times in the last 16 years but we all know the hobby is like a drug, you just can't quit, you gotta keep on puffing and smoking it till it's in your blood forever.
I don't do much wax since I can't be like those guys that buy 2 packs and pull a $500 rookie or auto of someone. I'm the guy that buys a $80 box and opens all the packs and when you are done and add up the good cards, it comes up to $57.00. I love the hobby. Best pull I had ever had with the hobby is buying a $52 box of 2003-04 Fleer Focus Basketball and pulling a Carmelo Anthony rookie # to 10. I posted it on ebay and it sold for $589.99
I'd rather buy collections when it's affordable. My main interest is football and basketball. I sometimes do baseball but baseball just has too many players to keep track of. I'm sorry to say my favorite teams are The Washington Deadskins. YEAH RIGHT!! I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan for life. I also like The San Diego Chargers cuz I'm a fan of LaDainian Tomlinson. I'm happy Dallas drafted DeMarcus Ware over Shawne Merriman. In basketball I'm a Boston Celtics FAN. I still collect Reggie Lewis cards and Antoine Walker. I think Paul Pierce is a great player and it showed when they won the Championship! Danny Ainge did the greatest move with trading for Ray Allen and then Kevin Garrett but it was sort of cheating I thought, he bought the ring but who cares! Celtics are CHAMPS now! Now the Celtics got Rasheed Wallace! I have no idea why the Celtics went after Nate Robinson and got rid of Eddie House but I'm just a fan.
